PTP Partnership Return quick start guide

Whilst the use of this program is intuitive the following notes should help you
get started.

PTP Partnership Return is part of the PTP Tax Platform suite. Therefore to open the PTP Partnership Return program you should use the shortcut labelled 'Tax Platform' on the Windows Desktop.

Before you start

Before you begin work it is important to ensure the database that is shipped with the program is updated to include the latest changes. To do so you should choose yes to install the demo clients and open and view an individual’s tax return and then the demo partnership clients return. We also suggest that you take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with the system.

Once you have viewed both a demonstration individual tax return and a partnership return on screen to update the databases you can begin to use the program in earnest.

Before adding the partnership client to the program you must add the individual partners and either create a tax return for them or tick the 'Do not act for' box: This means that each partner must be added as client type Individual before the partnership itself is added as client type Partnership.

To add a new individual client select the Client main details tab from the main program window. Click Add New Client then select Individual from the Type selection box, enter the clients details and click Save. If you do not want to create a return for the individual you must tick 'Do not act for'.

Once you have added the individual client you must add their tax return. To do so select the newly added client from the Find Client tab then click to view the Client Tax Returns tab and click Add New Tax Return in the bottom right corner of the window.

You must then click the Year specific Client Details button and select marital status then both the service and correspondence tax offices before clicking Close.

Once you have added the individual partners you can proceed to add the partnership client.

Adding a new Partnership client to the database

To add a new partnership client select the Client main details tab from the main program window. Click Add New Client then select Partnership from the Type selection box, enter the clients details and click Save.

Once you have added the partnership client you must add their tax return. To do so select the newly added client from the Find Client tab then click to view the Client Tax Returns tab and click Add New Tax Return in the bottom right corner of the window.

You must then click the Year specific Client Details button and select both the service and correspondence tax offices. Once selected click Update to save the changes then click Close.

Entering the Partnership Return details

To access the partnership return click the View Tax Return button in the Client Tax Returns tab. This will display the following Screen:

From here you can add the individual partners to the partnership and add the trade. To add a partner click the Add/Amend/Delete Partner(s) button, the following screen will be displayed:

Click Add. This will display a find client window listing all of the individual clients added to the program.

Highlight the client you wish to add as a partner and click Select highlighted Partner. Repeat this process until all the partners have been added. Once all the partners are listed in the Add/Amend Partners window close this using the X in the top right hand corner.

Once the partners have been added you can proceed to add a partnership trade.

Adding a partnership trade

To Add the partnership trade details click the Add Trade/Source to partnership button and enter the trade description.

To view the trade pages created click the View/Enter details for Trade/Source button. This will display the following window:

You can then enter the various income details via the backing schedules by clicking the Fanned Page Icon.

Once all the income detail is entered you can allocate the income between the partners.

To allocate income to partners, Click to View/Enter details for Trade/Source and scroll to the bottom of the screen. You will see:

Click Allocate Income to Partners to see the following:

Here you can enter each partners share of the income and work through each income source usingthe Next Source button.

When you have allocated all of the income click Close and then close the partnership return.

You have now successfully completed a partnership return and can begin to
file it online.
