Frequently Asked Questions - CT Platform
General information
It has been brought to our attention by some of our customers
that when filing amended returns online it doesn't
automatically change the figures with HMRC (both personal and
corporate) as a manual amendment is needed at their end. This
manual amendment by HMRC does not always take place.
In some cases you may have to phone HMRC to
get them to update their system.
CT Platform
Q: How can I submit PDF attachments in CT
Platform v5.2 prior to 1 April 2011?
A: See how to guide by clicking here
Q: I have installed the 2010
version of CT Platform and when I try to prepare a return for
FBI the "Add Computation" button is greyed out
A: This is by design. Due to the introduction of
iXBRL you cannot file an iXBRL computation and also a PDF
computation. Therefore the program by default ticks the PTP
schedules or computations and therefore greys out the option for
adding additional computations, but if you wish to send your own
then you need to untick the PTP schedules on the FBI attachments
window and then the add computations button will be activated.
Q: I am trying to add a new period but
when I click Save nothing happens.
A: This implies you have not yet entered the
registration codes covering the period you are trying to add.
This can be done via the Spanner Icon and the Registration tab.
Q: I have entered a figure for an R&D
claim in box 101 but it is not flowing through to the
computation.
A: The claim needs to be entered via the
profit adjustment screen
• Click the fanned pages icon next to question 3 to
access the profit adjustment screen
• Scroll down to the three blank lines (below Net
CA’s)
• Click on the grey button with three dots to the right
of the first available blank line
• Choose one of the categories relating to Qualifying
R&D Expenditure
• Click on the grey button with three dots to the far
right to enter a description and amount
Q: I have filed a CT600 and received a
rejection 9288 saying the sum of boxes 172 and 173 must not exceed
the apportioned aia limit
A: This error is caused where the return has the
increased AIA limit of £100000. This is due to HMRC not yet having
updated their online filing systems to cater for the new rate. This
should be done as part of an upgrade to their systems in OCtober,
so the return will either have to be filed manually, or submitted
online after HMRCs system changes.
Q: I am printing a CT600 return from the
FBI window and the Profit and Liability schedule is being appended
to the return, even when I have not ticked to print supporting
schedules.
A: This issue has been raised with the
development team and we hope to fix this in a future release.
Q: I have completed a
CT600 but when closing out of the return I get a warning to say
that “Box 30 may need to be zero because box 3 is zero and
box 31 is not ticked.”
A: This is a prompt to
double check your entries but if they are correct you can continue
through this warning.
Q: I have a short life asset set
up with a WDV brought forward. When I print the iXBRL
computation and view the Capital Allowance Schedule, my WDV b/f is
showing under the disposals column in addition to the WDV b/f
column which is incorrect.
A: This issue has been raised with our
development team and we hope to fix it in a future
release.
Q: I am printing the iXBRL computation
and the Total Claim column is not populating for certain asset
types on the Capital Allowances Schedule.
A: The affected asset types are Fixtures and
Fittings – Long Life (pooled and non-pooled), Industrial Buildings
(non-pooled) and Agricultural and Forestry Land (non-pooled).
We hope to fix this in a future release.
Q: While trying to navigate between pages
on the CT return I am getting a message "The following asset
categories have reached a state whereby the total residual value
(for pooled assets) is negative. As a result, an adjustment has
been made to calculate an overall balancing charge and the written
down value of all assets reduced to nil", followed by Error Code
3421 data type conversion.
A: This is being caused by a negative WDV
brought forward of less than £1, essentially a rounding
issue. This has been raised with the development team but the
workaround is to go back to the return where the addition was made
for this particular asset and amend the cost to whole pounds.
Then view any subsequent returns and open the Capital Allowances
screen on the most recent return to refresh the figures.
Q: I am a new user to CT and
when I go to the FBI icon the return I have been working on is not
appearing in the FBI Status list.
A: When you are ready to start the FBI process for
a CT return you will need to go into the Events button, on the
CT600 Returns screen. Select the FBI Events tab and enter a date in
Event 21 'CT Return ready for processing' in the actual date box.
The return will then appear on the FBI Status list.
Q: I have filed a CT600 online and received a
rejection "Error No. 3001 - Type: business
The submission of this document has failed due to departmental
specific business logic in the Body tag.

A: This was an issue in version 5.097-0 of the
software and was being caused by the return having losses brought
forward and filing using the iXBRL schedules. This issue has been
resolved in version 5.112-0 of the software so you will need to
update to that version and then refile the return online
Q: I have completed a CT600 and printed the new
iXBRL computation but the figures for Tax paid and outstanding does
not agree with the return?
A: This issue has been resolved in version 5.097-0
or above of CT Platform. This update can be accessed via the
spanner icon of the software or from the software updates section
of the website
Q: I am trying to prepare a CT600 online and
get a message to say “box 169 is complete but CT600i supplementary
pages not created”?
A: This issue has been resolved in version 5.097-0
or above of CT Platform. This update can be accessed via the
spanner icon of the software or from the software updates section
of the website
Q: I have attached a PDF copy of accounts to a
CT600 to file online and need to change the PDF. When I click to
either view the attachments or remove the attachments I get EC –
91, M = object variable or with block variable not set
A: This issue has been resolved in version 5.097-0
or above of CT Platform. This update can be accessed via the
spanner icon of the software or from the software updates section
of the website
Q: I have printed a CT600 in FBI and need a
second copy but when I print reprint return I get EC – 91, M –
object variable or with block variable not set
A: This issue has been resolved in version 5.097-0
or above of CT Platform. This update can be accessed via the
spanner icon of the software or from the software updates section
of the website
Q: I have attached a PDF copy of accounts to a
CT600 before filing online, and when I click Prepare FBI files the
return does not move onto the next stage of FBI?
A: This issue seems to be being caused by the file
name of the PDF attachment containing an “&”. You will
therefore need to rename the PDF file replacing “&” with “and”.
This issue has also been resolved in version 5.1.12 of CT Platform
and this update can be accessed via the spanner icon of the
software or through the software updates section on the website
Q:When trying to prepare a CT600 for FBI I am
getting a message saying “No computations have been attached.
Returns submitted online must include the required attachments. A
form sent without them does not satisfy the requirements and the
company will be treated as not having made a return”?
A: This suggests on the CT600 you have ticked to
disable the profit adjustment and therefore an additional
computation must be sent in PDF format. Otherwise you need to
enable the profit adjustment on the return and enter the full
breakdown of any add backs or deductions.
Q: I have completed a CT600 and filed the
return online. When I go back into that return to either view or
print, the First Year Allowances is being recalculated and so
displaying a different figure than the original filed or printed
copy.
A: This is an issue currently being investigated
by the development team and seems to be being caused when you have
ticked to override the calculated FYA figure on the return, when
reviewing it, the program is recalculating the figure and giving
the appropriate first year allowance for that year.
Q:I have filed a CT600 online and it has been
rejected with error code 9510 - If 'Copy of notices of consent' are
completed then a PDF attachment of type 'Other' must be present
Location:/hd:GovTalkMessage[1]/hd:Body[1]/ct:IRenvelope[1]/ct:CompanyTaxReturn[1]/ct:GroupAndConsortium[1]/ct:GroupAndConsortium[1]/ct:ClaimToGroupRelief[1]/ct:ClaimAuthorisation[1]/ct:AuthorisationOptions[1]/ct:CopyOfNoticesOfConsentAttached[1]
A: This is an issue with the software where you
have attached a PDF file under the heading of other. This issue has
been resolved in version 5.1.12 of CT Platform and this update can
be accessed via the spanner icon of the software or through the
software updates section on the website
Q: I am trying to complete a CT600 but I have a
tick in box 42, which is not applicable, but I cannot remove
it.
A: This box is ticked through the first page of
the CT600 because the type of company is left blank. To untick box
42, you will need to put a description from 1-10 which applies to
the company. These descriptions can be found, when you click into
the type of company box and click on F1.
